ABOUT THE POTTERY

Welcome to our web site. We have designed and created it ourselves.

I have been making ceramic figures since 1978 and have a well established and loyal customer base.  The business began almost by accident. Whilst teaching pottery an enjoyable experiment snowballed when I took a few figures to a local craft centre.  They sold instantly and have continued to do so. The figurines make an ideal gift but the main attraction is to the collector.

Now, 26 years later, Pete, my husband, and I are a two man business selling  handmade, original,  figures in Victorian & Edwardian style.  At the moment we sell a large range of figures as well as commissions, mainly at craft shows craft shows ,small craft shops and through our brochure mail order. This update to the technological age gives access to an exciting new market as well as improving our service to existing customers with access to the internet.

The figures are made in a workshop at our 18th century family cottage in rural Bedfordshire.  Each piece is handmade in stoneware clay and has to be carefully dried and fired three times.  The main glaze firing takes 12 hours and reaches 1260ºC. Each figure is aprox. 7 inches (18 cm.) in height

On three occasions during the year we open the pottery.  At these times people can see the pottery, buy figures (including new pieces) and share refreshments with us.  February is a 3 day shop with some special offers and seconds available.  June is an open weekend which hopefully spreads in to the garden.  In December we have a sale & collection day where we provide some festive cheer.

In May 2004 we started a CERAMIC PAINTING business.

Our PAINT POTS link has all the information.
